Webinar: Improving the Patient Experience in Cancer

As the healthcare industry becomes more saturated with big data, the search continues for data that can inform decisions that positively impact the experience and outcomes of patients with cancer. Big data, defined by large datasets with substantial numbers of patients and a wide array of clinical and claims data, can support certain types of statistical analyses. However, these datasets are limited because their datapoints are discrete, providing only sequential snapshots of a patient’s health status, without a more continuous assessment of the patient’s experience on treatment, which can only originate from the patients themselves.

Ethan Basch, MD, MSc, FASCO

UNC Cancer Hospital

Dr. Basch is a medical oncologist and distinguished professor in the UNC School of Medicine Division of Hematology/Oncology and a professor in the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. He also is director of UNC Lineberger’s cancer outcomes research program. He was recently elected to the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Board of Directors. He has led multiple national guidelines and clinical trials in prostate cancer and has pioneered research on patient self-reporting of symptoms during cancer treatment.

Stacie Hudgens, MSc
Chief Executive Officer

Clinical Outcomes Solutions

Ms. Hudgens is Chief Executive Officer and Strategic Lead at Clinical Outcomes Solutions, specializing in research design and statistical and psychometric analysis with extensive US and European Regulatory submissions and presentations. Her experience in health economics and outcomes research includes psychometrics, clinical and observational research design, item development and validation, patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in clinical trials, economic modeling, secondary data analysis, and longitudinal and missing data analysis. Ms. Hudgens has worked and published extensively in multiple disease states, with extensive expertise in oncology and diabetes, and has worked cross-functionally with regulatory, biostatistics, and marketing groups to inform and support PRO measurement strategies in product development.

Tanya Wildes, MD, MSCI
Consultant, Geriatric Oncology and Hematology

Cancer and Aging Research Group

Dr. Wildes is an expert in geriatric hematology/oncology. She trained in internal medicine and completed fellowships in hematology, oncology, and geriatrics at Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis. Her research and clinical interests focus on older adults with multiple myeloma. She also studies prevention of falls in older adults with cancer. Dr. Wildes is a member of the Cancer and Aging Research Group and the International Society of Geriatric Oncology and has served on the NCCN Older Adult Oncology Committee.

Bruno Lempernesse

Mr. Lempernesse brings 25 years of experience in the life sciences industry, healthcare technology solutions, data science and analytics. Recently a Senior Vice President and General Manager at SHYFT Analytics, Bruno joins Carevive from Acorn AI, a Medidata company, a global respected leader of clinical data and patient-centric trial solutions. Passionate about data and research, Bruno pioneered the Real-World Evidence & Real-World Data, and healthcare big data domain with the early development of collection and utilization of Longitudinal Patient Data sourced from Electronic Medical Records (EMR), in Europe and the US. Mr. Lempernesse earned a BS in International Trade, and a master’s degree in marketing, Market Research and Entrepreneurship at Novancia Business School Paris.

Madelyn Trupkin Herzfeld

Ms. Herzfeld was Founder, President, and General Manager of the Institute for Medical Education & Research, Inc. (IMER), where she led the development of accredited oncology continuing education/continuing medical education programs for nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals specializing in oncology for 12 years. Ms. Herzfeld earned dual degrees in business and nursing from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business and School of Nursing. She began her career at Bear, Stearns & Co. as a financial analyst in its investment banking healthcare services/pharmaceutical group and subsequently served as an associate for Pinnacle Partners, a boutique investment bank focused on middle-market healthcare service companies.

Mordecai Kramer, MBA
VP, Data Generation & Outcomes, Life Sciences


Mr. Kramer directs the activities of Carevive’s Data Fabric and Life Science business. Responsible for data generation and outcomes, and he works closely with Carevive’s life science partners to provide value and insights from the Carevive OPT-IN® dataset. Prior to joining Carevive in 2018, he oversaw business development activities for the Harvard Clinical Research Institute (Baim Institute for Clinical Research), an academic CRO, where he worked closely with life science companies to design and implement global clinical studies. Mr. Kramer has undergraduate degrees in Accounting and Economics from Yeshiva University and an MBA from McGill University in International Business.
